Issues of Garage Door Repair
05/17/2014 Back To BlogWhile many garage door openers are designed to have a significant lifespan, they eventually need some degree of garage door repair to maintain effective function. There are a number of common issues which can be experienced and homeowners can simply and easily attempt to troubleshoot the problem before resorting to calling in a professional.
Slanted Door:
If your door appears to be slanted, this can be the result of a worn out pulley or bent garage door track. Bent tracks can be gently manipulated back into shape using a hammer and a piece of wood. Spare garage door parts such as pulleys are readily available and in many cases easy to install.
Squeaking Movement:
If the doors squeak or make excessive noise when moving, it could be the result of loose fittings which require tightening or garage door rollers, hinges or bearings requiring lubrication. It is well worth paying a little attention to regularly maintaining your system, cleaning debris from tracks, lubricating moving parts and tightening fittings. This can not only prevent squeaking movement but can actually be preventative action for more serious issues.
Door Not Closing:
This is a very common problem. If the door fails to open and close, it may be the result of flat batteries in remote controls or the need to resynchronize all the fobs. However, if the door opens but will not close, it is usually the result of a fault with the safety sensor. This has been designed to ensure that the door will not close on any obstruction such as a vehicle or pet. Check for any obstructions in the path of the garage door and you should also look to clean any debris which may have built up around the sensor. These things can cause the sensor to trigger the safety protocol unnecessarily.
Taking a little time to investigate the causes of common faults may enable you to conduct basic repairs, saving you time, money and frustration.
